Tony's repressed
aggression has found an outlet in the character of Luke Spencer, who
represents the "moral anarchist" in Tony's soul.
As an actor, Tony Geary projects
a unique blend of maturity, childishness, masculinity and off-the-wall
craziness that few other performers are capable of. There's a revolution
brewing in his brain, a rebelliousness bubbling just beneath the surface of
his soul, which threatens to explode at any moment.
Tony's co-star,
Demi Moore, described it best: "Tony has an inner fire," she said,
"an excitement that makes him extremely fascinating. You never know what
he's going to do next. Whether he'll be up or down. He thinks his
way, different from anybody else. Tony is hot because of this. He's a unique
individual. He does things only like he does them, not like anybody
else."
Even as a kid Tony's individuality was obvious, but he
didn't always find it easy to express himself. "I was born in a very
small town in Utah," he says. "It was a Mormon community of about 800
people and I just didn't fit in. From the time I was a child, I looked for
my own truths". "I don't go for public opinion when it comes to what
one person should do with their lives," he adds. "I mean it's up to
that one person, and I grew up in an environment that didn't exactly nurture
that idea."
General Hospital, however, provided the
perfect environment for Tony-a bright spotlight for his self-expression.
"I think that Gloria Monty, our producer, has given me probably more
freedom to create in my own way than any other actor has ever been given in
the history of daytime television," says Tony. "In fact, I'm sure of
it."
In the racy, raucous role of Luke Spencer, Tony Geary was
allowed to release his aggressions at last. "Luke represents the
aggressive, moral anarchist in my soul," Tony explains. "There's a
very strong one there but I don't live my life from that place. I think I'd
be in prison if I did."
But, luckily for Tony (and his millions
of adoring fans), the actor is not behind bars. He is alive and well and
living it up in L.A. And he is, through his GH persona, entertaining
the imaginations of GH viewers with a vengeance.
