Chris
Robinson, who portrays Dr. Rick Webber on GH, has always been an
intense, ambitious man; so much so that his hard-working stint on the show
is only one part of a busy and productive career. Indeed, a casual inventory
of his outside life makes you wonder how he ever finds time to memorize his
lines!
Born in Fort Lauderdale and raised by his maternal
grandmother, Chris was transplanted to Los Angeles at the age of six. A
good-looking kid, he was also very bright, and to the delight of his elders
brought home top grades. Inspired perhaps by his stepfather, who was a
seaman, Chris developed a lust for adventure that even today is reflected in
his interest in amateur archaeology and the collecting of prehistoric
American Indian artifacts from the Southwest.
He decided at an early
age to pursue acting, and his dedication was unswerving: he worked in a gas
station and washed dishes in order to continue studying drama at Los Angeles
City College. It wasn't too long before he began finding the success he
deserved: especially in a regular role as Sgt. Sandy Komansky in the superb
1960s TV series Twelve O'Clock High. And it's been one triumph after
another since then.
"The most important thing to me is being
loved by a woman and loving that woman," Chris has said, and to this end
he recently married his third wife twice-the first ceremony was
"spiritual" rather than official (because his divorce from his second
wife was still not final). Chris has a teenage son and a new baby who form
an important part of his emotional life.
What are Chris Robinson's
plans for his artistic future? Well, he has been directing TV and
documentaries for some time; perhaps you have seen some of the episodes he
helmed for Baretta or Barnaby Jones. And one of his biggest
hopes is to produce, direct, and star in a film about Montgomery Clift. He
certainly has the intensity to play Clift, and we're looking forward to the
flick.
