DOUG SHEEHAN

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

1982

Doug yearns to spend more time at home with his lovely wife, Cate, but his schedule doesn't always permit it. "When you're famous, " Doug says, "your time isn't really your own ".

For most actors, a starring role on a hit TV soap is demanding enough. But Doug Sheehan (Joe Kelly on GH) is managing to handle his acting career and a burgeoning musical career as well. Not only is he a skilled bagpipe player (thanks to his Scotch-Irish background), Doug also plays the banjo and sings. At present he is combining his two careers by promoting his single record about a fellow character on General Hospital called "Annie Logan, Eat Your Heart Out".

Lately, Doug has been traveling all over the country, publicizing both his record and General Hospital. What with learning his lines and taping the show, it adds up to an arduous schedule for anyone, but it's even harder for Doug who's not only a self-professed homebody, but a newlywed as well.

It was just about eight months ago that Doug wed his beautiful wife Cate. The two lovebirds live in a secluded area on the outskirts of Hollywood, usually eschewing the social whirl of tinseltown to enjoy a quiet life of their own.

But lately, with all the publicity GH has been generating and the promotional tours Doug has had to make, he and Cate have to work hard to find time alone. And as grateful as Doug is for his success, he admits to finding the pressures of fame somewhat hard to deal with.

"I love to stay home," he says. "I like being my own person. But when you're famous, or even have a modicum of fame, your time isn't really your own. You can't go into the grocery store and just be a human being. You're always being recognized and singled out".

One thing that makes it a little easier for Doug to satisfy his need for a quiet life is that his wife Cate, though pretty enough to be an actress, is not in show business. There are no career conflicts, so when Doug's schedule permits, he and Cate are able to relax completely.

"I like her!" he cheerfully says of his wife. "So far we're adjusting to married life just fine".
