He's
relatively new to the GH cast, but already John Stamos has made the
character of Blackie Parrish a hot household name among teenage viewers.
John, an energetic and optimistic 18-year-old, is nothing like the angry,
troubled character he portrays, but he's very interested in Blackie and
excited about developing the role.
"Blackie's a tough street kid
on the outside," says John, "but he's actually pretty vulnerable on
the inside. Dr. Rick Webber and his wife (on the show) are the only people
who have any faith or trust in Blackie. Everyone says that I'm his exact
opposite, but I connect to him and understand him."
A native of
Southern California, John is the oldest of three children (his two sisters
are still in high school). John is very close to his family and friends and
prefers to live at home in Orange County and commute daily to the studio.
John began acting in high school plays and he gained performing
experience as a drummer in the rock band, Destiny. He once made a habit of
attending TV studio tapings to soak up every bit of information he could
learn, and he studied acting with Guy Stockwell and director Milton
Katselas.
John has a wide variety of interests and he finds acting
perfectly suited to his personality. "When you grow up, you think you can
be anything," he says. "As an actor, you can be a fireman, a doctor
or a cop. You can play a part for a month or so and never get bored. You can
really be anything. "
John's family has always supported
him in his goal to become an actor and they were thrilled when he landed a
role on the top-rated soap in America. And John was thrilled to relay the
news. He felt as though he were paying his parents, sisters and friends back
for having been there for him all along. As he called home to tell his
parents that he got the GH job, his main thought was, This is for
you.
And John is still working to make his family and friends
proud of him. Every time he walks in front of the GH camera he is trying to
be the best he can be. And, judging from John's top-notch performances (not
to mention his mountains of fan mail), he is definitely succeeding.
